Die Cisco Catalyst Serie 3850 bietet eine umfassende Plattform, die für vollständige Konvergenz zwischen kabelgebundenen und drahtlosen Netzwerken sorgt. Herzstück der Switches bildet die Unified Access Data Plane (UADP) ASIC (Application-specific Integrated Circuit) von Cisco. Diese anwendungsspezifische integrierte Schaltung ermöglicht eine einheitliche Durchsetzung von Richtlinien für kabelgebundene und drahtlose Netzwerke, mehr Transparenz für Anwendungen und eine Optimierung der Anwendungsleistung. Die Cisco Catalyst Switches der Serie 3850 bieten vollständige Unterstützung für Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) nach IEEE 802.3at, modulare und vor Ort austauschbare Netzwerkmodule sowie redundante Lüfter und Netzteile.
