Der Cisco Catalyst 4948 Switch Serie ist ein fest konfigurierter Layer-2/3/4-Switch, der nur eine Rack Unit umfasst. Er bietet eine geringe Latenzzeit, hohe Performance und Zuverlässigkeit für Low-Density und Multilayer-Aggregation von Hochleistungsservern und -Workstations. Der Catalyst 4948 bietet die Sicherheitsfunktionen der Catalyst 4500er Serie. Dazu gehören der Schutz vor Daten- und Identitätsdiebstahl, im laufenden Betrieb austauschbare, doppelte interne Stromversorgung und Lüftung sowie hohe Performance mit geringer Latenzzeit für 10/100/1000-Verbindungen auf allen 48 Ports unabhängig von den eingesetzten Sicherheitsfunktionen.
