Der HPE Smart Array P440ar Controller ist ein SAS-RAID-Controller (Flexible Smart Array) mit 12 Gbit/s, der Speicherleistung der Enterprise-Klasse, mehr interne Skalierbarkeit (mit der SAS-Erweiterungskarte) und Datenschutzfunktionen für HP ProLiant Gen9 Rack- und Tower-Server bereitstellt. Er ist mit acht internen physischen Verbindungen ausgestattet und bietet eine höhere Serververfügbarkeit durch Bereitstellung erweiterter Speicherfunktionen, einschließlich Online-Migration auf RAID-Ebene zwischen beliebigen RAID-Ebenen mit Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC), globalem Online-Spare und präventiven Warnungen. Die Gen9 Controller unterstützen den HPE Smart Storage-Akku, der die Unterstützung für mehrere Smart Array Controller ermöglicht und so für einen einfachen Upgrade-Prozess sorgt.
