Eine PCMCIA-Flash-Speicherkarte erhöht die Zuverlässigkeit, indem sie Softwareimages zur Sicherung und Konfigurationsdateien speichert. Um maximale Betriebszeit zu gewährleisten, unterstützt der Cisco 7200 das Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) der Cisco IOS-Software, welches im Fall einer Störung des Systems oder der Verbindung direkt zu einem Sicherungsrouter hinüberschaltet. Umgebungsmonitore unterstützen verschiedene Eskalationsstufen, so dass der Operator eingreifen kann, bevor das System abschaltet.
