Die IP Base Software (zuvor Standard Multilayer Image oder SMI) genannt, umfasst leistungsstarke QoS, Rate-Limiting, ACLs sowie grundlegende Routing- und IPv6-Funktionalität. Die IP Services-Software (zuvor Enhanced Multilayer Image oder EMI) bietet ein breitere Palette von Funktionen der Enterprise-Klasse, wie fortgeschrittenes hardwarebasiertes IP Unicast und IP Multicast Routing sowie Policy-based Routing (PBR). Die Advanced IP Services Software enthält IPv6 Routing und IPv6 ACL Support.
