Die Layer 2 Ethernet-Switches wurden speziell für Unternehmensnetzwerke entwickelt, die ein hohes Maß an Sicherheit und intelligente Funktionen erfordern. Sie bieten 10/100 Mb/s Downlink und 1000 Mb/s Uplink Ethernet-Anschlüsse und können als Zugriffseinheiten für 100-Mbps-zu-Desktop-Anwendungen in Unternehmensnetzwerken eingesetzt werden. In Stadt- oder Regionalnetzen (MANs, Metropolitan Area Networks) oder verschiedenen branchenspezifischen Netzwerken können sie zur Herstellung von Verbindungen zwischen Endbenutzern eingesetzt werden oder auch zur Zusammenlegung von Clientservices mit 10/100-Mb/s-Verbindungen, die dann auf einem leistungsstärkeren Switch über Schnittstellen mit 1000 Mb/s zusammengeführt werden. Zu den Features gehören eine erweiterte Servicequalität (QoS), Übertragungsbegrenzung, QinQ (virtuelles LAN [VLAN]/VPN), SSHv2, Multicast-VLAN-Registrierung (MVR), virtuelle Kabeltests (VCT, Virtual Cable Test), HGMP V2, GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP), Zugriffssteuerungsliste (ACL, Access Control List), MAC-IP-Port-Bindung (Media Access Control), EAD (Endpoint Admission Defense), sprach- und protokollbasiertes VLAN, IGMP-Snooping (Internet Group Management Protocol) und Power over Ethernet (PoE)
