Mit seiner ActiveScan-Funktion überwacht er alle 802.11-Kanäle, während er mobilen Clients drahtlose Verbindungen ermöglicht. Außerdem kann der Access Point WLA522 mit seiner SentryScan-Funktion als kontinuierlich scannender Wächter fungieren. Neben der typischen Frequenzabtastung als Wireless Intrusion Prevention-Maßnahme kann der WLA522 auch als dedizierter Spektrumsensor eingesetzt oder parallel zum Clientzugriff verwendet werden, um Informationen zum Spektrum zu erfassen.
