Sophos XGS 2U Firewalls – High-Performance Network Security for Enterprises and Campus Networks

Sophos XGS 2U Firewalls are designed for large enterprises, distributed locations and complex campus networks with demanding security and network performance requirements. These rackmount next-generation firewalls combine high data throughput with comprehensive security features and flexible expansion options. They are particularly suitable for organisations that need to process large volumes of data, secure numerous network connections and maintain high availability across their IT infrastructure.

To deliver the required performance, all models in the Sophos XGS 2U Series feature a dual-processor architecture with a powerful CPU and a dedicated Xstream Flow Processor. Hardware acceleration reduces the load on the main processor and enables efficient operation of advanced security features. These include TLS Inspection for analysing encrypted connections, Sandboxing for examining suspicious files and AI-powered threat detection. This allows businesses to protect complex network environments effectively, even when handling high volumes of network traffic.

In terms of connectivity, Sophos XGS 2U appliances offer a combination of high port density and modular expandability. In addition to integrated 1 Gigabit copper interfaces, models feature eight to twelve 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports for high-speed fibre connections, depending on the configuration. The XGS 7500 and XGS 8500 models also support speeds of up to 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps respectively via QSFP28 interfaces. Additional Flexi Port modules allow businesses to customise the number and type of connections according to the requirements of their existing network infrastructure.

The series also provides extensive connectivity capacity for particularly large network environments. With optional expansion modules, configurations of up to 48 ports on the XGS 5500, 68 ports on the XGS 6500 and 70 ports on the XGS 7500 and XGS 8500 are possible, depending on the model. Integrated redundancy features also support high operational reliability and help minimise downtime in business-critical IT environments.
