Die Intel Virtualization Technology for Connectivity (VT-c) ist eine Suite zur Hardwareunterstützung, die E/A-Engpässe bei virtualisierten Servern reduziert und Leistung, Flexibilität und Skalierbarkeit virtueller Rechner verbessert. Mithilfe des Emulations- oder Direktzugriffsmodus kann in einer virtualisierten Umgebung die Gesamtsystemleistung durch Verringerung des E/A-Overhead verbessert werden. Dadurch werden die CPU-Auslastung optimiert, die Systemlatenzzeit reduziert und der E/A-Durchsatz erhöht. Im Emulationsmodus optimieren Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDq) die Netzwerkleistung durch Verschiebung von Datensortierungs- und Kopiervorgängen vom virtuellen Software-Switch des VMM zum Intel Ethernet 82599 10-GBit-Controller. Diese Konfiguration eignet sich am besten für eine große Anzahl VMs, die Standardanwendungen mit beschränkten Anforderungen an Bandbreite und Latenzzeiten ausführen. Die auf Industriestandards basierende SR-IOV bietet im Direktzugriffsmodus unmittelbare Konnektivität und Datensicherung für die virtuellen Rechner. Sie ermöglicht die Umgehung des virtuellen Software-Switch durch die Daten und bietet nahezu originalgetreue Leistung. Dabei werden den einzelnen VMs physische oder virtuelle E/A-Anschlüsse direkt zugewiesen. Dieses Produkt wurde für die Verwendung mit Dell Systemen getestet und geprüft.
