Der HP IP Console Switch G2 mit Virtual Media und Common Access Card (CAC) ist eine zentrale Komponente für das Management heterogener Rechenzentren. In Kombination mit der IP Console Viewer Software ermöglicht dieser Switch den Remotezugriff auf mehrere Server, auf denen unterschiedliche Betriebssysteme ausgeführt werden. Mithilfe der Virtual Media-Funktionalität lässt sich ein Wechsellaufwerk oder ein ISO-Image auf einem angeschlossenen Server in einem Rechenzentrum oder in einer Niederlassung remote zuordnen, um Softwareinstallationen und Upgrades durchzuführen. Eine intuitiv bedienbare Benutzeroberfläche für die lokale Konsole stellt Menüs für Konfiguration, virtuelle Medien, Anzeige und sogar Sicherheit und Upgrades von der lokalen Konsole aus bereit. Die Oberfläche entspricht dem On Board Web Interface (OBWI), das für die Remoteverwaltung verwendet wird. CAC steht für Common Access Card, auch als Smart Card bezeichnet. Diese Karte ermöglicht Regierungsbehörden und anderen Unternehmen die Implementierung einer Authentifizierung mit zwei Faktoren, um die Sicherheit in ihren Rechenzentren zu erhöhen.
