Die HP 5500 EI Switches umfassen Layer-2/3 Gigabit Ethernet-Switches für anspruchsvollste Anwendungen. Diese Switches bieten sowohl robuste und sichere Anschlüsse als auch die neuesten Priorisierungstechnologien, womit Anwendungen in konvergenten Netzwerken optimiert werden. Die Switches bieten durch die vollständige IPv4/IPv6 Dual-Stack-Unterstützung einen Migrationspfad von IPv4 zu IPv6 und einen Hardware-Unterstützung für IPv6. Diese Switches wurden für eine höhere Flexibilität konzipiert und haben 24 oder 48 Gigabit Ethernet-Anschlüsse. Die Modelle sind wahlweise mit oder ohne PoE (Power over Ethernet) erhältlich und können optional mit GbE- und 10GbE-Erweiterungen ausgerüstet werden. Das Glasfasermodell mit zwei Netzteilen ist ideal für Anwendungen, bei denen die Verfügbarkeit oberste Priorität genießt.
