In Verbindung mit der neuen IBM Total Storage LTO (Linear Tape Open) Ultrium-Datenkassette, die mit 400 GB eine doppelt so hohe Speicherkapazität wie die Ultrium 2-Technologie liefert, verfügt das neue TS2230-Bandlaufwerk über eine Speicherkapazität von bis zu 800 GB (bei 2:1-Komprimierung). Doch nicht nur die Kapazität des TS2230-Bandlaufwerks hat sich erhöht, sondern auch seine Leistung hat sich im Laufe der letzten Generationen halbhoher LTO-Laufwerke auf dem Markt mehr als verdoppelt auf eine native Datenübertragungsrate von bis zu 60 Megabyte pro Sekunde (MB/s).
