Campus or Data Center – Which Switch Series Is Right for You?
Huawei clearly separates its switch portfolio into two categories. The S Series campus switches are designed for traditional enterprise networks, including offices, branch locations, schools and public sector environments. Models such as the S5700, S5320 and the newer S5735 series deliver reliable performance at moderate acquisition costs and are easy to deploy and manage in day-to-day operations. The CloudEngine family (CE Series), on the other hand, is built for data center environments. Here, low latency, high port density and advanced features such as VXLAN, EVPN and M-LAG are essential. Switches like the CE6800 and CE12800 are designed to efficiently support virtualized workloads, software-defined networking (SDN) architectures and modern spine-leaf deployments.

Huawei Campus Switches – The S Series: In campus networks, Huawei's S Series is the leading choice. Access switches such as the S2700 and S5700 series are designed for traditional edge connectivity and are often available with PoE/PoE+ support for IP phones, surveillance cameras and wireless access points. Organizations requiring higher performance and advanced Layer 3 capabilities can choose models from the S5735 or S6700 series. Aggregation switches such as the S7700 and S12700 series provide traffic distribution within larger network environments and support features including switch stacking and redundant power supplies.
Huawei Data Center Switches – CloudEngine Series: For data center deployments, Huawei offers its CloudEngine family of switches. The CE5800 and CE6800 series are commonly used as Top-of-Rack (ToR) switches, while the CE8800 and CE12800 series serve as spine switches in modern spine-leaf architectures. Support for 10/25/40/100 Gigabit Ethernet, VXLAN, EVPN and software-defined networking (SDN) through Huawei iMaster NCE-Fabric is standard across many models. For high-availability environments, devices can be interconnected using M-LAG technology to provide redundancy and minimize downtime.
