Der HP Smart Array P822 Controller ist ein SAS-RAID-Controller mit Standardhöhe, halber Länge, 6 Gbit/s und PCIe 3.0, der Speicherleistung auf Enterprise-Level für ausgewählte HP ProLiant Gen8 Rack- und Tower-Server bereitstellt. Er ist mit zwei internen und vier externen SAS-Anschlüssen ausgestattet. Die fortschrittliche Speicherfunktionalität, einschließlich Online-Migration auf RAID-Ebene, der globale Online-Spare und präventive Warnungen tragen zu einer höheren Serververfügbarkeit bei. Datenkompatibilität zwischen allen Smart Array Controller-Modellen erlaubt einfache und problemlose Migrationen, sobald höhere Leistung, Kapazität und Verfügbarkeit erforderlich werden. Auch die neuen Generationen der Smart Array Controller können das Datenformat der älteren Generationen verarbeiten.
