HP Location Discovery Services ist die erste Lösung, die Rack-Gehäuse und IT-Komponenten zusammenführt, um eine automatisierte Selbstlokalisierung der installierten Server zu ermöglichen. HP Racks der Intelligent Serie mit installierter HP Location Discovery Option liefern detaillierte Positionsdaten an ProLiant Gen8 Server, sodass neue Installationen und die Verlagerung von Komponenten nachvollzogen werden können. Bei der Installation erfasst die iLO-Software (Integrated Lights-Out) des Servers die Rack-ID sowie die genaue Position (in U) des Servers im Rack. Diese Informationen können an andere Systeme, wie z. B. die HP Intelligent PDUs, weitergeleitet werden, um HP OneView und Insight Control automatisch zu aktualisieren. Dies spart Zeit bei der Konfiguration von Hardware und Software für die Verwaltung des Rechenzentrums und reduziert ständige manuelle Aktualisierungen, sodass auch die damit verbundenen menschlichen Fehler vermieden werden, die Problemlösungen behindern und sogar Ausfallzeiten und Umsatzverluste zur Folge haben können.
