There, the firewall filters incoming and outgoing traffic according to the configuration. In addition, the systems support packet analysis for use as an intrusion detection system (IDS) or intrusion prevention system (IPS) and can be used to set up a VPN. The bandwidth of the hardware firewalls ranges from systems for small and medium-sized enterprises to solutions for data centres as well as similar central telecommunications nodes.
