Cisco Wireless Controller
The Cisco Wireless Controllers, WLC for short, are control devices specially designed for the central management of Wi-Fi networks. The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers can be integrated directly into the wired network, for example in the network cabinet. Smaller Cisco Wireless Controllers, such as the devices of the 2504 series, are also suitable for stand-alone installation away from the central network node or for smaller companies.
With the Cisco Wireless Controllers, all access points in the network area can be centrally controlled and managed. This includes the entire configuration, the creation of virtual networks and also the management of user rights based on the SSID of the mobile devices that connect to the WLAN.
Hundreds of access points can be centrally managed with a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller, which greatly facilitates the administration of large networks. The WLCs also support the administration of networks that extend over several separate areas or are connected to each other via tunnels and virtual networks. The access points do not have to be directly connected to the Cisco Wireless Controller.
