Cisco 40 Gigabit Transceiver

The Cisco 40 Gigabit transceivers are pluggable modules for the uplink slot in switches from the manufacturer. They are compatible with a range of modular switches from the manufacturer. These transceivers are used to connect two switches with each other. There they provide high bandwidth in a larger network between two points. They support hot-swap.

The transceivers have the format QSFP (Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable) and are compatible with LC connectors. Cables of the type SMF (single-mode fibre) or MMF (multi-mode fibre) can be used. The range of the connections created in this way is between 50 centimetres and 40 kilometres. Thus, the Cisco 40 Gigabit transceivers enable a flexible expansion of internal networks even over longer distances.

Cisco offers special adapter cable solutions for the transition to networks with copper cables. These allow the connection between optical QSFP and SFP+ copper networks. In this way, a distribution of the bandwidth to 4x10 Gbit/s is possible. In this way, a gradual and controlled migration to 40 Gigabit networks or the targeted expansion to higher speeds through the use of optical fibres on certain routes is possible with the Cisco 40 Gigabit transceivers.
